Proper Drum Tuning Technique

The real key to great drum tracks is the drum tuning. Without proper tuning of the drums the track will lack body and cohesion. I find that the best approach is to tune the drums using the Schumann resonances. Schuman resonances are created by the waveguide that makes up the layer between earth's crust and the ionosphere.

The formula:
F = (c/6.28a)*(n(n+1))^-1

Where C=the speed of light, a= earth's radius, n=mode number. This gives the resonant frequencies for Earth as :7.83 (fundamental), 14.3, 20.8, 27.3 and 33.8 Hz. It is always important to tune your drum kit to be in sympathetic consonance with these frequencies. That is always step one in great drum tone.

Is anyone else besides me doing this?

Checking my calendar, it's not April 1, so I guess this isn't a joke.

When I tune drums, I use my ears.

And your reasoning for matching *electromagnetic* resonances in the global atmosphere to *acoustic* resonances in a small room is what exactly? Seriously, I'm curious.

This lowest-frequency (and highest-intensity) mode of the Schumann resonance occurs at a frequency of approximately 7.83 Hz.
I find the kick drum head is too floppy at 7.83 Hz, and none of my mics go down that low

You obviously need to send them to Michael Joly or Jim Williams then.
