Question Schoeps mk//ccm and very loud sources

Hi all, I'm recording a friends band tonight, and my usual in front of kick drum (km140 with pad) is not available, so i'll probably use one of our schoeps modular mics with cardiod capsule . also i'll try the omni for the between kik and snare compressed to smithereens mic (yeah, it's decadent I know)

what's your experience with these mics and loud sources? It has no pad wich scares me a little..

thanks!

Huub

What combo are you using of Schoeps? I did not think they could handle a kick drum but their max SPL is pretty high.

To be honest I do not know the number, but I used the cardioid in front of the kickdrum, really nice.. the omni capsule as trash mic did not work so well, i used an old electrovoice RE50 omni dynamic into distressor for that..

Hi Huub,

I have seen colleagues use an MK2 very succesfully inside of a bassdrum, though you have to like that kind of sound.

For overheads I used the MK2H myself and was happy with the results.

In general the Schoeps can handle very high sound pressures really well, I wouldn't expect any problems with drum kits.

Groetjes,
Dirk

according to the official specs on the Schoeps website, the ccm4 has the exact same max SPL and noise figures as the mk4/cmc6 cap/body combo.
